Similar species: The smaller (9 to 11mm) Weavers Wave Idaea contiguaria britanniae may seem similar until put alongside this species. It has more pointed forewings and the markings have more contrast.
Forewing: 12 to 15mm
Habitats: Rocky coastal slopes, coastal grassland and salt-marsh. Also on urban wasteland and other habitats inland.
Habits: The moth is occasionally found resting on rocks during the day. It comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Wild Marjoram, Wood Sage, Horse-shoe Vetch, Yarrow, Mugwort, stonecrops, Knotgrass, plantains and other low-growing plants.
