Similar species: Unlikely to be mistaken for other British or Irish species.

Forewing: 14 to 18mm

Habitats: Woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.

Habits: The moth flies from dusk onwards and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on wild roses including Dog Rose and Sweet Briar. It pupates in a cocoon in loose soil.
