Similar species: Unlikely to be mistaken for other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 14 to 16mm
Habitats: Open woodland, woodland rides and margins, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Dog Rose and probably other wild roses. It pupates in a cocoon in loose soil. It has sometimes been dislodged from Hawthorn and Blackthorn hedgerows, but it is unknown whether roses were present.
