Similar species: Shaded Broad-bar Scotopteryx chenopodiata is superficially similar, but is smaller (fw.16 to 19mm) and flies earlier (June to early September).
Forewing: 19 to 22mm
Habitats: Wasteground, road verges, river margins, marshes, vegetated shingle, sand-dunes and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes sparingly to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Common Mallow, Marsh Mallow, Tree Mallow and Garden Hollyhock. It pupates under the soil.
