Similar species: Green Pug Pasiphila rectangulata lacks the red scales on the upper side of the first three segments of the abdomen and where the outer edge of the cross-band reaches the leading edge it has an indentation.

Habitats: Mature hedgerows, woodland margins and Blackthorn scrub.
Habits: The moth occasionally comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the flowers of Blackthorn. It pupates on the ground in the leaf litter.
