Common

Similar species: This species is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish moth.

Forewing: 14 to 17mm

Habitats: Conifer plantations, other coniferous woodland, parkland and gardens.

Habits: The moth is sometimes found at rest on deciduous understory shrubs and is easily disturbed from the lower branches of its host trees. It flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds mainly on Norway Spruce or Scots Pine, but also on Sitka Spruce, Corsican Pine, Japanese Red Cedar, Western Hemlock and other conifers. It pupates in the leaf and needle litter on the ground or in moss.
