Similar species: The small size and the resting pose of the wings held almost closed above the body are diagnostic.
Forewing: 14 to 17mm
Habitats: Open woodland with sunny bramble edged clearings.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed in the day and the female has been recorded flying amongst Bramble during the late afternoon. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Bilberry and where this plant is not present, probably Bramble which it accepts in captivity. Dogwood, Ash, sallows, Dog Rose and other wild roses may also be used. It pupates in the soil.
