Similar species: Although it varies in size and intensity of colour the moth is unlikely to be mistaken for other British or Irish species.

Forewing: 15 to 18mm

Habitats: Woodland clearings, heathland, moorland and most other places where Bracken is present.

Habits: The moth is easily disturbed during the day. It flies from dusk and comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Bracken. It pupates in the soil.
