70.260 Feathered Beauty Peribatodes secundaria ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Recent colonist / Immigrant

Similar species: This species is variable in the amount of dark suffusion along the central crosslines.

Willow Beauty Peribatodes rhomboidaria is on average larger (17 to 24mm) and has less contrasting markings. It has narrower antennae with a longer length without feathering at the tip. The forewing outer central cross-line bows more in the centre, so kinks inward more abruptly towards the leading edge.

Mottled Beauty Alcis repandata has two loops in the forewing outer central cross-line and it does not angle and meet with the central cross-line at the trailing edge.

Forewing: 17 to 20mm

Habitats: Conifer plantations.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on Norway Spruce. In captivity it will accept Scots Pine, Western Hemlock, Douglas Fir and Lawson's Cypress.
