Similar species: Willow Beauty Peribatodes rhomboidaria lacks the obviously outward bowed cross-line on the hindwings and has a small filament at the end of the antennae. Mottled Beauty Alcis repandata has two loops in the forewing outer cross-line and it does not angle and meet with the central cross-line at the trailing edge. It also lacks the obviously outward bowed cross-line on the hindwings.

Habitats: In mainland Europe it is found in woodland, parkland and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: In mainland Europe it feeds on birches, Pedunculate Oak, Evergreen Oak, Wild Privet, Lilac, Ivy, Blackthorn, Traveller's-joy, Dog-rose, pines and other trees and shrubs. It probably pupates in the leaf litter or loose soil.
