Similar species: Common White Wave Cabera pusaria has grey cross-lines and the central and outer central cross-lines are nearly straight. It is usually less speckled than Common Wave.
Forewing: 14 to 16mm
Habitats: Damp woodland and carr.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from foliage during the day. It flies from dusk, comes to light and nectars at flowers.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Grey Willow, Goat Willow, other willows, Aspen and other poplars. It pupates in the leaf litter or in the surface of loose soil.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on White Willow and Hazel.
