Similar species: A distinctive moth in a high altitude habitat, so it is unlikely to be mistaken for other species.
Forewing: 10 to 13mm
Habitats: High mountain slopes and mountain moorland.
Habits: The male flies in sunshine, while the female crawls over rocks or does short low flights. In windy weather they both crawl or do short hopping flights.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Crowberry and possibly Cowberry, Bilberry and Heather. It pupates on the ground under lichens.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Dwarf Birch.
