Similar species: This moth is extremely variable. It usually has an ochreous hue. Despite this, if care is taken this moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 14 to 15mm
Habitats: A garden centre escape from New Zealand from where it got the "Common" part of its name. It was first recorded in Cornwall in 2007. It is now found in scrub woodland on the edge of moorland and a rural garden.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva is thought to feed on Scots Pine, cypresses and Gorse.
