Similar species: A large distinctive bright green moth that is unlikely to be mistaken for other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 24 to 29mm
Habitats: Woodland, overgrown hedgerows, heathland and grassland scrub, mature parkland and gardens.
Habits: The moth is occasionally seen flying around the tops of trees in warm sunshine. At rests its posture makes it look like a green butterfly. It comes to light around midnight.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Downy Birch, Silver Birch, Alder, Hazel and sometimes Beech. It pupates in the leaf litter.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on limes and willows.
