Similar species: Marbled Brown Drymonia dodonaea has an interrupted pale-grey outer bar, but lacks the crescent shaped marking on the forewing. Both species have rare black forms.
Forewing: 16 to 20mm
Habitats: Oak woodland, parkland, hedgerow oaks and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Sessile Oak, Pedunculate Oak and probably Turkey Oak. It pupates just under the soil surface.
