Similar species: Lesser Swallow Prominent Pheosia gnoma has a shorter distinct white wedge rather than a grey-brown and less distinct wedge running at least half way from trailing corner of wing towards the wingbase.
Forewing: 22 to 28mm
Habitats: Damp woodland, poplar plantations, scrub, carr, hedgerows, heathland, moorland, marshes, fens, amenity planting and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Aspen, poplars, sallows and willows. It pupates in a tough cocoon in the soil.
