Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 16 to 19mm
Habitats: Old established woodland with birches present.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on birches. It pupates in a flimsy cocoon in the leaf litter or just below the soil.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on limes and oaks.
