Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 18 to 25mm
Habitats: Damp woodland, poplar plantations, scrub, carr, hedgerows, heathland, moorland, marshes, fens, amenity planting and gardens.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Aspen, poplars, willows and sallows. The larva pupates in the leaf litter or just below the soil.
On the European mainland it has also occasionally been recorded feeding on Alder, oaks and limes.
