Similar species: Maple Prominent Ptilodon cucullina has a less scalloped edge to the forewing which has a large area of white scales along its outer edge.

Forewing: 17 to 22mm

Habitats: Woodland, parkland, scrub, marshes, wooded moorland and heathland, amenity planting and gardens.

Habits: The moth is occasionally disturbed in the day. It comes to light.

Foodplant: The larva feeds on sallows, birches, Hazel, oaks, Alder, Aspen, Hawthorn, Rowan, limes, Beech, roses and many other deciduous trees and shrubs. It pupates in a cocoon in the soil.
