Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 12 to 15mm
Habitats: Damp woodland, scrub, wooded heathland and mature hedgerows with trees.
Habits: The moth flies from sunset and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on Dog Lichen Peltigera ssp., other lichens, mosses and algae on trunks and twigs of oaks and other trees. In captivity it accepts Dandelion and lettuce. It pupates in a cocoon of silk and larval hairs.
