Immigrant

Similar species: Dusky Fan-foot Zanclognatha zelleralis has a more scalloped central cross-line and a pale outer cross-line, often made more obvious by a dark suffusion in the outer area of the wing. Fan-foot Herminia tarsipennalis is a slightly smaller (13 to 16mm) moth with a paler crescent mark in the forewing and a smoother central cross-line. Shaded Fan-foot Herminia tarsicrinalis is a smaller (12 to 14mm) moth with a diffuse shaded bar across the forewing and smoother central cross-line.

Forewing: 14 to 17mm

Habitats: On mainland Europe it inhabits clearings in damp deciduous forest.

Habits: The moth comes to light.

Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. On the European mainland it feeds on the withered and dead leaves of oaks, Beech and probably other deciduous trees. In captivity it will accept the withered leaves of Dandelion. It probably pupates in the leaf litter.
