Erebidae
72.060 Marsh Oblique-barred Hypenodes humidalis Doubleday, 1850
Notable B
Similar species: This moth is more likely to be mistaken for a tortrix moth than any other British or Irish macro-moth due to its small size.
Forewing: 6 to 8mm
Habitats: Bogs, wet moorland and heathland, marshes, fens and watermeadows.
Habits: The moth flies in the late afternoon and from dusk. It later comes to sugar and light.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in the wild. The larvae probably feeds on Marsh Cinquefoil or Sphagnum spp., which are species to which it has a close association. In captivity it will accept Cross-leaved Heath. These plants and Heather and Purple Moor-grass are the only plants present on one site it inhabits. It pupates hanging from a plant stem.
