Similar species: White-lined Snout Schrankia taenialis has broader forewings and a smaller less obvious streak through the kidney mark.
Forewing: 9 to 11mm
Habitats: Bogs, wet moorland and heathland, damp woodland, sallow carr, marshes, fens and river margins.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk and visits flowers. It comes to sugar and light.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in the wild. In captivity it accepts the flowers of Heather, Wild Marjoram, Wild Thyme and mints, and the damp and withered leaves of Lettuce and sallows.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded that it will feed on cow-wheat and bellflowers.
