Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 13 to 15mm
Habitats: Damp woodland clearings.
Habits: The moth is easily disturbed from the foodplant. It flies from dusk and comes to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on the fresh shoots of small saplings of Aspen. In captivity it will accept sallows. It pupates in a tough cocoon of silk and chewed bark on the foodplant.
On the European mainland it has also been recorded feeding on Goat Willow.
