Similar species: This moth is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.
Forewing: 13 to 15mm
Habitats: Woodland, parkland, orchards, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.
Habits: The moth flies from dusk and comes sparingly to light.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on lichens growing on twigs and branches of Hawthorn, Blackthorn, European Larch, Yew and other trees. In captivity it accepts the common green algae Desmococcus ssp. It pupates in a tough cocoon on a branch or twig of the foodplant.
