Erebidae
72.075 Oak Yellow Underwing Catocala nymphagoga (Esper, 1787)
Suspected immigrant
Similar species: This moth looks similar to one of the crimson underwings but much smaller with a yellow hindwing. It is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species, although there are several other similar moths on mainland Europe that also have yellow hindwings.
Forewing: 17 to 21mm
Habitats: In Europe it inhabits woodland clearings, sunny woodland margins and oak scrub on lower mountain slopes.
Habits: The moth comes to light.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. On the European mainland the larva feeds on Evergreen Oak and other oaks. It pupates between spun leaves.
