Similar species: This moth with a white spot at the forewing base, orange crest and orange arrow-heads in the outer area of the wing, is unlikely to be mistaken for any other British or Irish species.

Habitats: In Europe it inhabits grassy scrub, drystone walls and rocky places.
Habits: The moth comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The early stages have not been recorded in Britain. On the European mainland the larva feeds on Rustyback Fern, Southern Maidenhair Fern, Cheilanthes vellea, Bracken and other ferns. It pupates in the leaf litter, moss or in rock crevices.
