Similar species: Marbled Beauty Bryophila domestica is usually smaller (12 to 14mm) and has a greyish-white or greenish-white forewing with a complete inner central cross-line and a waisted kidney mark. Tree-lichen Beauty Cryphia algae is slightly smaller (10 to 13mm) and has a complete inner central cross-line.

Habitats: Sea-cliffs and other coastal rocks, calcareous areas with rocky outcrops or dry stone walls and gardens.
Habits: The larva can be found resting on walls and rocks during the day. It nectars at flowers and comes to light and sugar.
Foodplant: The larva feeds on lichens on rocks, roofs, walls and occasionally trees, including Diploicia canescens, Xanthora spp. and Caloplaca spp.
